My Performance Experience
My life as a performer began in primary school when I began learning the cello and joined the school and local orchestras. Since then, I've blossomed as an orchestral performer. I have performed with Sheffield Music Hub in Sheffield City Hall on numerous occasions and at Music For Youth in Birmingham Symphony Hall. I have gone onto being a dedicated member of the Leeds University Music Society, playing in both its Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, the latter of which I was manager of. I also played with the City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra, leading the cello section on a tour to Italy in the summer of 2018.
In the summer of 2017, I played in a small three-piece band in a musical at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival put on by Try This at Home Theatre for a run of 15 shows, which received specific acclaim in reviews for its musicians. I have also played in numerous shows put on in the University of Leeds, such as the notably different productions of 'Spelling Bee' and 'Don Giovanni'. I have particularly enjoyed playing in shows, operas and musicals during my time at university.
As well as this, I have undertaken Ensemble Performance modules as part of my degree, and have recently performed as co-lead cellist in a concert of Schubert's orchestral music. at my graduation, I was awarded a specific certificate of commendation for my outstanding achievements in this module. Previous notable experience of concerts include tours to Cologne and northern France playing challenging and exciting repertoire. I have also played with the Grand Union Orchestra from London in a combined project at the University of Leeds.
As an established solo performer, I've had opportunities to play in the Clothworkers Concert hall in Leeds as well as performing in a charity concert run partially by myself in Sheffield. More recently, I have debuted by own new Suite for Solo Cello and Sam Longbottom's new work 'Lullaby' in the twice-annual music society's Composers' Showcases. I enjoyed performing new works and being a part of the contemporary music ensemble 'LSTwo' under Dr Mic Spencer in 2018, premiering new works by Marc Yeats, Scott McLaughlin and various other composers. Having built my skills from a grade 8 distinction in cello to studying solo performance at university and then developing my ability further through study towards a DipABRSM, I look forward to seeing where my solo career will take me next and embracing the opportunities which it presents me.
